The Golden Calf
Three long months went by
Since they had come out of Egypt
When the Hebrew people
Came to a mountain called Sinai
God told Moses
Go and tell the people
In three days
to assemble at the mountain’s base
Thick dark smoke was everywhere
Indicating that God was there
The ground began to quake
Everything started to shake
And the people were afraid
There was a trumpet blast
Moses called out to God
And God answered him at last
The rumbling stopped
God summoned Moses
To come up to the top
Moses stayed for forty days
To be instructed in God’s ways
In the meantime the Hebrews
Were bored and tired of waiting
For Moses to come back
So they returned to their old ways
They gathered gold from everyone
And fashioned it into a calf
Like the Egyptians used to have
They stood it in their midst
bowed down and worshipped it
When Moses suddenly appeared
The people were overcome with fear
Moses saw them dancing
Round and round
Before that Golden Calf
He got so mad
That he took the tablets
God had given him
And smashed them to the ground
Moses had to go up once more
And God gave him the tablets
With His instructions like before
We call them the Ten Commandments
The Hebrew people call them the Law
They are the foundation
Of the Kingdom of God
